“Conversion of Russia”
Poland Veers Left Again
by Christopher A. Ferrara
As we know, a left-wing alliance of communists and their fellow-travelers won the Polish elections during the weekend of September 21, 2001, completely annihilating the Solidarity coalition which (so the story goes) “brought down communism” in Poland.
Now the commies are going to get down to business. One of the first things any communist wants to do, of course, is to institute abortion-on-demand. Abortion is already legal in certain cases in Poland (putting the lie to the Fatima revisionist claims of a “miraculous” transformation of Polish society), but the Polish commies want abortion-on-demand. As Reuters news agency reports: “The left-wing alliance which won Poland’s general election at the weekend announced plans on Wednesday to ease the country’s tough anti-abortion law in a move certain to appall Polish-born Pope John Paul.”
Poland’s so-called “tough anti-abortion law”, passed by the so-called “anti-communist” Solidarity government, already allows abortion “only” in cases of “irreparable damage” to the fetus, “serious danger” to the woman’s health or when pregnancy results from rape. So, it is really just a question of how many more babies the commies will succeed in killing with their new legislation. According to Marek Pol, leader of the one of the leftist parties in the new communist-led coalition which now rules Poland, “We believe abortions should be allowed when the woman faces hardship.“ Hardship, as in “It’s too hard for me to have a baby now.”
Pol advises that opening the floodgates to abortion will be “a second priority after a rescue program for public finances, which could take several months to implement, and speeding up European Union membership talks.” First we take care of money, then we can start killing babies. The conclusion is clear: Poland is heading morally and spiritually downward, not upward, more than 17 years after the “consecration” of 1984.
Those who say this pontificate has been a great moral success in the world are, with all due respect to His Holiness, dreaming. Now the Pope’s own homeland is about to become a killing field for the unborn. If not even the Pope’s own people will follow the most basic papal teaching on the natural law, it is obvious that the influence of the papacy on the rest of the world is practically nil. (We must remember that the Polish people themselves voted these pro-abort communists into power, despite the Pope’s plea in 1997 that Poland has no future if it kills its own children.)
But the vanishing moral influence of the papacy is no doubt precisely why the Mother of God came to earth to proclaim: “In the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, which will be converted.” Only through the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart can Russia (and thus the world) be converted and the papacy restored to its rightful place as the world’s highest authority. At this moment in history, however, not even Poland has converted, and the Pope is reduced to the level of an international celebrity who is much “respected” but little obeyed.
Naturally, none of the bad news from Poland, or Russia, or anywhere else in the world will make the slightest dent in the Fatima revisionist dunderheads who are leading the funeral procession for the Message of Fatima. If these folks can seriously maintain that we are witnessing the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart after the events of September 11, 2001, then clearly they are no longer operating in the real world. But the real world is the one we all have to live in. And unless the imperatives of Fatima are heeded soon, the real world may not be inhabitable much longer.
At least no one can say that Father Nicholas Gruner and his apostolate failed to sound the alarm. They have been doing that for more than 20 years, often to the laughter of those who ridicule his work as “doomsaying”. They aren’t laughing now.
