U.N. Supports Chinas Forced
Abortion Policy
by Christopher A. Ferrara
The Population
Research Institute (PRI), headed by Steve Mosher, has been doing great work in
exposing the anti-life agenda of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
PRIs weekly briefing of November 28, 2001 notes that the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Christian Coalition, the Family Research
Council, the Southern Baptist Convention and Concerned Women for America are
leading protests against UNFPA because of its close ties to the Red Chinese
regime.
PRIs own
research shows that "UNFPA works closely with the Chinese governments
Office of Family Planning in counties where women have been forcibly aborted.
We cannot ignore the testimony of women who describe family planning workers
tracking them down, jailing family members, imposing massive fines, and
destroying homes."
PRI reports that
last month the U.S. Congress heard testimony about how a woman "had her home
jackhammered and her relatives imprisoned in her efforts to spare her unborn
child from becoming a victim of Chinas forced abortion policy. And this
was in a county where UNFPA operates."
As the Family
Research Council rightly notes, UNFPA is guilty of "complicity in grave human
rights abuses and coercive abortion policies." But UNFPA is an integral part of
the United Nations as a whole. Now, if an official arm of the United States
government in Washington were engaging in a policy of forced abortion, would
not the national government as a whole be guilty of complicity in genocide? The
same is true of the United Nations. The U.N. includes an agency which supports
the diabolical Red Chinese regimes "family planning policies" and works
closely with those who commit Chinas crimes against humanity.
Thus, every nation
that belongs to the U.N. shares in complicity for Red Chinas genocide
(not to mention UNFPAs anti-life activities worldwide) if it continues to
support the U.N., without which the UNFPA could not conduct its dirty work. The
Vatican, which has observer status at the U.N., is also obliged to cease
supporting an organization that directly subsidizes mass murder in the womb,
not only in China but throughout the Third World.
In his encyclical
Ubi Arcano Dei, Pope Pius XI taught that no merely human "league of
nations" can replace that true league of nations known as Christendom, and that
an international organization of states founded on anything other than
Christianity is bound to fail in achieving world peace.
Therefore, instead
of supporting the United Nations, which makes possible the very existence of
UNFPA, the Vatican should be leading the way to an international boycott of
this increasingly diabolical institution. Sad to say, the Vatican Secretariat
of States dogged pursuit of "peace" through the United Nations shows no
signs of abating. This is what happens when the God-given rights of the
Catholic Church are subordinated to fallible human diplomacy and the powers of
the world.
