The End Is Near: Canada Authorizes Assisted Suicide

by Christopher A. Ferrara
February 16, 2015

As reported by the indispensable LifeSiteNews, Canada's Supreme Court has joined the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and the loony states of Washington and Oregon by inventing a right to "assisted suicide" on the part of people who are facing the end of their lives due to disease or otherwise and wish to "die with dignity" — that is, to have someone murder them.

The Court overturned a Canadian criminal statute which provided, in keeping with the divine and natural law, that "every one who (a) counsels a person to commit suicide, or (b) aids or abets a person to commit suicide, whether suicide ensues or not, is guilty of an indictable offence." The Court also overruled its own 1993 decision holding that "the state's obligation to 'protect the vulnerable' outweighed the rights of the individual to self-determination" under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

The Canadian high court has now authorized murder under specified "end of life" circumstances so long as the murderer is a doctor — that is, one who knows how to kill someone effectively but painlessly by putting them to sleep like a dog or cat — and the murder victim is the doctor's patient. This brings new meaning to the term "doctor-patient relationship."

No one should be surprised by this decision. It was as inevitable as the Morgentaler case in which Canada authorized murder at the very beginning of life — in the womb. No one should be surprised because for more than two centuries the once Christian West has been on a downward spiral of social apostasy resulting directly from what contemporary man, supremely ignorant of his own past, deems the received wisdom of the ages: the separation of Church from State, politics from religion, and social order in general from Christ the King.

In 1925 Pope Pius XI, writing in defense of what the Church used to call the Social Kingship of Christ before the "springtime of Vatican II" brought a long dark winter to the Church, warned the world that "With God and Jesus Christ excluded from political life, with authority derived not from God but from man, the very basis of that authority has been taken away, because the chief reason of the distinction between ruler and subject has been eliminated. The result is that human society is tottering to its fall, because it has no longer a secure and solid foundation."

Forty-eight years later Our Lady of Fatima appeared in Akita, Japan to renew the warning She Herself had given at Fatima concerning the "annihilation" of "various nations." She said:

As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will have never seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by My Son. Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and priests.
The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres...churches and altars sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.

With one nation after another descending into an abyss of total depravity, while even Catholic prelates contend with each other at the ludicrously misnamed Synod on the Family over whether public adulterers should be admitted to Holy Communion and the "homosexual orientation" should be "valued" in the Church, it does not take a prophet of doom to declare that the end of our civilization is very near. It takes only someone with eyes to see.

Only Our Lady of Fatima, and the Consecration She prescribed, can avert the chastisement our rebellious world is begging for. Only She can deliver us from the apocalyptic outcome seen in the vision that the Vatican Secretary of State would have us believe is the entirety of the Third Secret, depicting merely 20th century events: a future Pope being executed outside a devastated city filled with the dead, no doubt in the midst of a devastated world.
