Dolan the Non-Partisan Prelate

by Christopher A. Ferrara
September 3, 2012

Having made his appearance at the Republican National Convention in Tampa to bestow the requisite American-style nondenominational benediction on the proceedings — devoid of any reference to Christ our Saviour, but only to Jesus as a son of Abraham along with Isaac and Jacob — Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York is ready to do the same for the Democrats in Charlotte.

As Life Site News reports, the Archdiocese of New York had already issued a statement "clarifying" that Dolan's appearance at the Republican Convention was "not an endorsement and he would be willing to offer benediction at the Democratic National Convention as well."

And so he will. Dolan's offer to bestow a benediction on the proceedings of the party of abortion and "gay rights," including "gay marriage," has been accepted — but only after Obama at first rejected the offer. According to Joseph Zwilling, Dolan's media mouthpiece, "It was made clear to the Democratic Convention organizers, as it was to the Republicans, that the cardinal was coming solely as a pastor, only to pray, not to endorse any party, platform, or candidate."

There we have it: the prefect American prelate. The United States is sliding into an abyss of moral corruption without precedent since the fall of Rome, but Dolan will not endorse any party, platform or candidate. So what is the point of his presence at either convention? Apparently, his intent is to call upon God to bless the sacred democratic process, no matter what its outcome.

So Dolan will have not a word to say to the Democrats in opposition to their diabolical platform of abortion on demand, "gay rights" and "gay marriage." On the contrary, his very appearance in the midst of that coven of crazed liberals will be a tacit endorsement of their right to convene and approve as their platform unspeakable evils even the pagan Romans would have viewed as madness.

Cardinal Dolan personifies the abject failure of moral leadership that has neutralized the Church Militant in America and throughout the Western world since the Second Vatican Council. But not only does he remain silent in the face of evil, he goes forth to legitimate a convention of its advocates with his presence as a successor of the Apostles.

Worse, Dolan went out of his way to inveigle the appearance. "Typically," notes CNN, "a local bishop would speak at a convention like this." But Dolan, said Zwilling, "consulted Bishop Peter Jugis of the Diocese of Charlotte, who gave the Cardinal his consent to take part in the convention that will be taking place in his diocese." In other words, Dolan aggressively butted into the affair. For what? Some time in the limelight?

With Church leaders like this, the Church's enemies have very little work to do in completing their final interment of what is left of the moral order. Non-partisan prelates like Dolan are readily available, indeed eager, to participate in the funeral ceremonies at places like Charlotte.

May God help His holy Church by delivering her from weak prelates. For only a revived Church Militant — the same Church Militant invoked by Our Lady of Fatima — can save the West now. And Our Lady of Fatima provided the battle plan for a spiritual reconquest of the ground we have lost to the "dictatorship of relativism" to which even Catholic prelates bend the knee: the Consecration of Russia to Her Immaculate Heart. Let it be done according to Her request and His will.
